Latest Union News
Members of the Department,
As you all know, last year during the development of the current budget that we are in, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted to disallow funding of public safety longevity pay dispite the fact that the Personnel Regulations clearly state that they "shall" grant this pay at the conclusion of the employees 15 and 20 years of employement. Your union has been working on this matter since this decision was made. We have met with several Board Members, we have tried to resolve this matter in every way possible, but to no avail.
We now find ourselves at the point where litigation is the only alternative to getting this issue addressed. Yesterday I mailed letters to the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive, and the County Attorney notifying them of our intent to seek our remedy through the legal system. I have directed our legal counsel to file the required paperwork in order to start our lawsuit. For those that have been and will be affected, we will be reaching out to you individually. Any member of the Union who wants to be a part of this lawsuit is encouraged to do so. Any non member who wishes to join the union may also sign on. These are tough times and we all need to stand up for one another.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself of Vice President Mike Scanlon.

In Unity, Strength,
Marshall Thielen
